Dr. Anoosh Masood has made history by becoming the first female police officer to be named senior superintendent (SSP) of Lahore’s operations wing, according to the media.
The appointment was made after six other policemen were moved about, according to documents provided by the Punjab Inspector General of Police. In Mustansar Feroz’s place, Dr. Anoosh Masood Chaudhry has been named head of the Lahore operations police, with Feroz being told to go to the Central Police Office (CPO) for further instructions.
This is a noteworthy accomplishment considering that male officers often hold the top posts in Pakistan’s police force. According to statistics, the Punjab Police employs over 175,000 people. The number of women in the force is only 4000, or less than 1%.
Therefore, it is a positive development for Pakistan when women defy gender norms and take on senior positions in the police.
In Pakistan, female officers have also been shown to be valuable assets. For instance, Kulsoom Fatima, the first female Station House Officer (SHO) in the Pakpattan district, resolved 200 cases of rape and sexual abuse in the first two months following her appointment in 2019.
Achievements of Dr. Anoosh
Dr. Anoosh has accomplished incredible things as well, in a similar way. Dr. Anoosh received a gold medal in medicine before joining the force. She set a record after joining the police department when she was appointed as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first female Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
She has also named the top crime fighter in Lahore in 2018. According to sources, the Model Town division for investigation successfully filed challans in court for 74% of the cases that were referred to them in 2018. This was done under her well-directed supervision.
