Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was detained on Tuesday by Rangers officers from the Islamabad Judicial Complex, according to the IG of Islamabad.
According to the head cop in the federal capital, the former premier was taken into custody in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The situation is typical. Police action will be taken if Section 144 is violated, according to IG Islamabad.
CJ Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has taken note of the incident and has summoned the IG of Islamabad, the interior secretary, and the assistant attorney general.
Justice Farooq was given instructions to quickly inform the court of who was responsible for the arrest and the matter in which the PTI leader was taken into arrest. Even if it means taking action against ministers, the judge maintained that it will be taken.
Imran has reportedly been transported to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office in Rawalpindi, according to the IG Islamabad.
Despite receiving notices for the case hearing of the land transfer of Al-Qadir Trust, for which Imran and his wife were trustees, the deposed premier, as reported by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, failed to show up in court.
For endangering the national treasury, the NAB has detained him. They weren’t subjected to any violence, he added.
The former premier was detained inside the IHC’s walls after testifying in instances involving inciting mutiny and violence against PML-N leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha.
According to a Reuters witness, paramilitary forces contingents and armored personnel carriers approached the IHC gate right after Imran entered.
The witness stated, “The armored vehicles blocked the gate, and shortly after, the ex-PM was whisked away under heavy security.”
The IHC was held by Rangers, “lawyers were being tortured,” and Imran’s car was encircled, said Pakistan PTI senior leader Fawad Chaudhry.
The previous ruling party claimed on its official Twitter account that the PTI chairman’s lawyer was “badly injured” within the IHC premises during the arrest.
The Case
The Al-Qadir University for Sufism was established in Sohawa, Jhelum district, in 2019 by then-prime minister Imran Khan.
However, he and a real estate tycoon were accused of stealing Rs. 50 billion from the national coffers and registering the Trust on 450 kanals.
