Police Security for Buses
After a horrifying, tragic accident involving a high-speed bus, the highway police suggested “escorting” passenger buses over the salt range, a 10-kilometer-long, curving route that is prone to incidents.
According to a report in the media, Mohammad Yusuf Malik, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for the Motorway North Zone, has decided that buses traveling between Islamabad and Lahore will be given “time cards at predetermined safe places” and watched over by speed cameras and patrol vehicles.
Before the range, a “group of [an] appropriate number of buses” will stop at a “safe place” and then proceed in a convoy. This plan will “significantly reduce” traffic and highway collisions, especially in the Kallar Kahar area.
