Nepra raises hydropower prices by Rs. 11.11 per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a Rs1.11 per unit increase in the hydroelectric electricity rate.

From 2022 to 2023, the new price of a hydropower unit has increased from the previous Rs3.85 to Rs4.96.

The Central Power Purchasing Authority (CPPA) was also given a directive by the regulatory body to assess the hydropower plants owned by WAPDA for capacity.

The report from each station was to be given to Nepra, and it was instructed that the capacity status be conducted independently.

People are protesting against the inflated electricity after receiving high bills in many places throughout Pakistan when the hydropower tariff is raised.

Along with setting people on fire, enraged citizens asked that the government remove additional levies from electricity bills. The caretaker administration is talking with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) amid the demonstration to secure aid for the general populace.
