Following India’s seven-wicket victory over Pakistan on Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the 12th game of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik expressed his thoughts on Babar Azam’s captaincy.
After the Green Shirts lost to India for the eighth time in the history of the World Cup, supporters, and former and current cricket players have begun to worry about the poor performances of many key players.
Azam can perform wonders, but only as a batter, according to Malik, who said as much in a sports interview on a local sports show.
“Look, I’ll give you my honest opinion on this. There is a lot of study behind it, as I have said in other interviews, but Babar should step down as captain,” Malik remarked.
“Babar is a player who can work wonders for both the team and himself. It is my viewpoint, and it is not based on the fact that we lost the game today (against India) or that we lost by a significant margin.
“I think Babar lacks creativity as a leader. Since they are different, one shouldn’t mix their leadership and batting skills. He’s been a captain for a while, but he’s never been able to get stronger.
Rohit Sharma earlier led his team to a crucial victory that pushed them to the top of the ICC World Cup points table with a mind-blowing 1.82 run rate.
The Hitman, who hit 140 against Pakistan during the 2019 World Cup, once again displayed his batting prowess by leading the victorious team in scoring with 86 off 63 balls. 12 boundaries were included in his quick knock.
The Green Shirts’ first-innings collapse, which saw them lose eight wickets for just 36 runs in 12.5 overs, allowed the other team to restrict them to 191 in 42.5 overs.
