At the UN climate conference in Dubai, a Pakistani school run by the Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) achieved an important goal by winning the $100,000 Zayed Sustainability Prize.
The innovative project that the school conducted that promoted organic farming and water conservation earned it the title of Best Global School in South Asia. KORT school separated itself from rivals from Bangladesh and India with its innovative approach to climate-related problems.
The award was handed out by United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed at the Expo City in Dubai. In honor of the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, the Zayed Sustainability Prize recognizes projects carried out by small and medium-sized businesses, nonprofits, and high schools that tackle issues with food, energy, water, climate change, and health.
A 19-year-old KORT representative, Sumaiya Bibi highlighted the need for their water conservation effort, reminding out that Pakistan’s supply of clean drinking water is predicted to run out by 2025.
She confirmed the school’s dedication to building sensor taps and water filtering systems to reduce water waste and to cultivating an organic kitchen garden for health benefits.
Founded in 2016, the KORT School and College of Excellence is situated in Azad Kashmir and assists children who were left orphaned by the 2005 earthquake.
Offering education, boarding modifications, food, clothes, and medical care, the institution has more than 500 pupils.
The prize money would be used for clean water and organic farming projects in rural areas, as indicated by the organization’s founding chairman, Chaudhry Mohammed Akhtar.
This year’s $3.6 million prize fund is reflected in the Zayed Sustainability Prize, which was given to 11 winners in a variety of categories. Global environmental sustainability and profound potential are the goals of these innovative concepts.
