Zaka Ashraf, the head of the PCB Management Committee, had formulated a plan for hosting the T10 League in Pakistan. Discussions with English Cricket County Middlesex had commenced, and exhibition matches were scheduled in Rawalpindi from January 24 to 26.
A 40-member delegation from England, comprising male and female cricketers and officials, was expected to participate, along with the unveiling of the league’s logo. Despite seeking government approval, permission was not granted.
Sources disclosed that a comprehensive project briefing was presented to the IPC Ministry by a five-member delegation in Islamabad.
The budget for the exhibition matches was subsequently reduced to 28 crores. However, simultaneously, the ministry issued a letter to the PCB headquarters in Lahore, directing them to limit activities to daily affairs and prohibiting the installation of chairs, solar panels, and fans in stadiums. Additionally, restrictions were imposed on signing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with any cricket board.
Meanwhile, Zaka Ashraf is slated to preside over the PCB Management Committee meeting on Tuesday. In this meeting, a new governing board will be established, consisting of four representatives each from four departments and regions.
Former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif nominated Zaka Ashraf and Mustafa Ramday as government candidates.
The inaugural governing board meeting is expected within a week, where chairmanship nominations will be accepted, potential objections addressed, and hearings conducted.
Subsequently, the final list of candidates will be announced. Despite the usual trend of the Prime Minister’s nominee assuming the chairmanship, the current circumstances deviate from this norm.
