Resolution submitted in NA condemning Hamas chief’s killing

Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has introduced a resolution in the National Assembly condemning the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, according to News.

The resolution, submitted by JUI-F Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and other parliamentarians, expresses that the Muslim community has lost a significant revolutionary leader and fighter.

It emphasizes that Ismail Haniyeh elevated the Palestinian cause on the global stage and highlighted Israel’s oppressive actions, leading JUI-F to strongly denounce the attack on him.

Haniyeh was killed in the early morning in Iran, according to the Palestinian group, raising concerns of further escalation in a region already tense due to Israel’s war in Gaza and the worsening conflict in Lebanon.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed Haniyeh’s death shortly after he attended a swearing-in ceremony for the new president, and announced they were investigating the incident.

Ismail Haniyeh served as the assertive face of the Palestinian group’s international diplomacy amid the ongoing war in Gaza, where an Israeli airstrike killed three of his sons.

Despite his strong rhetoric, many diplomats viewed him as more moderate compared to the more hardline members of the Iran-backed group in Gaza.

Haniyeh became a protégé of Hamas’ founder, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, who, like Haniyeh’s family, was a refugee from the village of Al Jura near Ashkelon.

In 1994, he told Reuters that Yassin was a role model for young Palestinians, saying: “We learned from him the love of Islam and the willingness to sacrifice for this Islam, and not to bow down to tyrants and despots.”
