Denmark has denied renowned Pakistani boxer Muhammad Waseem a European visa, preventing him from participating in a crucial world title fight scheduled for October 4 in Malta.
Waseem, a two-time world champion, expressed his frustration in an interview with Express News, stating, “I have been a world champion twice, yet they rejected my visa, alleging that I might not return if I went there. I traveled extensively and trained with my coaches in London.
I needed to reach Malta early to prepare for the upcoming world title fight.” According to reports, the Danish embassy held Waseem’s passport for 40 days before returning it with a visa rejection.
Waseem was set to compete against South African boxer Sabelo Ngebinyana for the World Boxing Federation Bantamweight Title.
“The world title fight is very significant for me, and I am determined not to miss this opportunity,” Waseem said, hoping for a successful outcome against his opponent.
He also called on the Pakistani government, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the army chief to intervene and assist in securing his visa.
Born on August 20, 1987, in Quetta, the 36-year-old boxer, known as “Falcon” in the boxing community, has brought honor to Pakistan by winning the International Boxing Federation World Flyweight Title in both 2018 and 2022.
