Imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan is enduring psychological harassment in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, according to allegations made by his sister Aleema Khan on Monday.
Speaking to Express News, Aleema clarified that while her brother has not been physically harmed, he has been subjected to mental pressure.
Accompanied by Imran Khan’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, she told the media outside Adiala Jail that Dr. Asim had assessed Imran’s health, noting he was stable but had visibly lost weight.
“There may not be physical abuse, but the mental stress is undeniable,” she remarked, citing Panjotha’s experiences. Aleema further criticized those who act above the law, inflicting suffering as they choose.
She questioned, “What wrongdoing did Intezar Panjutha commit?” adding that Imran Khan has even been implicated in Zille Shah’s death, and that investigators have allegedly been instructed to lie in court without repercussions.
Aleema described Imran Khan’s movement as a “Revolution for Justice,” asserting that anyone could meet a similar fate as Intezar Panjutha.
She noted that people who protest abroad may see their families targeted in Pakistan, pushing them to seek justice in the UK.
She appealed to the new Chief Justice, cautioning that unchecked lawlessness might drive people to take justice into their own hands.
Aleema stressed that her brother’s life is at risk, but he remains resolute in advocating for democracy and the rule of law, with no intention of negotiating.
“We must peacefully protest and exercise our constitutional rights, as his release seems unlikely,” she said. Salman Akram Raja urged the public to unite, stating, “Privacy no longer holds any sanctity.” He announced plans for nationwide protests, starting from Swabi on May 9, concluding with Imran Khan’s freedom.
