After Pakistan’s heartbreaking 3-0 series loss to Australia, the country’s top players, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, saw a significant drop in the most recent ICC T20I rankings.
Babar Azam dropped one spot from fourth to fifth place with 742 rating points in the T20I batter rankings. Mohammad Rizwan, his opening partner, also lost a spot, dropping to sixth place with 719 rating points. As a result of this drop, no batter from Pakistan is presently ranked in the top 50 for T20I.
However, Tilak Varma of India made a spectacular comeback, moving up 69 spots to take third place overall, just behind Travis Head, the top-ranked batter from Australia. Additionally, this moved him up to the top of the Indian batting rankings, above Suryakumar Yadav, who fell to fourth.
A number of other players had significant improvements, including as Sanju Samson of India, who rose 17 spots to 22nd place with strong performances, which included two hundreds in the series versus South Africa. Tristan Stubbs of South Africa also improved, moving up to 23rd, and Heinrich Klaasen, his teammate, moved up six spots to a tie for 59th.
Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka moved up three spots to 12th place, and Shai Hope of the West Indies shot up 16 spots to 21st. Marcus Stoinis of Australia also made a significant shift, moving up 10 spots to 45th place with his recent half-century against Pakistan.
Adam Zampa and Nathan Ellis of Australia were two of the biggest shifters in the T20I bowler rankings, while Arshdeep Singh of India rose three spots to ninth position with a new career-high rating after his exploits against South Africa.
With 601 rating points, Haris Rauf, who was Pakistan’s best player in the most recent Twenty20 International series, rose four spaces from 24th to 20th in the bowling rankings. Shaheen Afridi, a left-arm pacer, saw a significant drop, falling 10 spots from 14th to 24th with 585 rating points.
Imad Wasim, an all-rounder who hasn’t participated in any Twenty20 International matches since the 2024 T20 World Cup, fell seven spots to 35th place in other news.
Saud Shakeel, meanwhile, suffered a slight setback in the Test batting rankings, falling two spots to ninth place with 724 rating points. Salman Ali Agha moved to 19th place, Rizwan to 20th, and Babar Azam, who rose to 17th place, saw encouraging movement.
