Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the Shah Bandar block, situated in Sindh’s Sujawal district. In an official statement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company revealed that the Jhamp East X-1 well in the Shah Bandar block is producing 10 million standard cubic feet of natural gas (MMSCFD) per day, along with over 150 barrels of light oil. The natural reserves from the well exhibit a pressure of 2,800 pounds per square inch (PSI). The extracted gas is being processed at the Sujawal gas processing plant and subsequently supplied to the Sui Southern Gas Company’s system, bolstering the region's natural gas supply. The Shah Bandar block is backed by a consortium of stakeholders, with PPL holding a 63% share. Mari Petroleum owns a 32% stake, while Sindh Energy Holding and Government Holdings (Private) Limited each maintain a 2.5% share. Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to ensure a steady and reliable supply of gas to domestic consumers during the winter season. Addressing concerns about reduced gas availability for households, he emphasized the need for urgent reforms in the supply system to resolve the issue permanently and reiterated that ensuring domestic gas supply remains a top government priority.
