Senate committee reviews bill to punish black magic practitioners

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior convened to deliberate on a proposed bill targeting individuals involved in black magic and related practices.

Chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem, the session reviewed the bill presented by Senator Samina Mumtaz, which seeks to impose a seven-year prison sentence on those engaging in or promoting black magic, as reported by Express News.

During the discussion, Senator Irfan Siddiqui raised questions about defining the scope of black magic, pointing out that advertisements for such practices frequently appear in newspapers. He also expressed concerns about the potential increase in such activities.

In response, Senator Samina Mumtaz stated that practitioners of black magic are harming society. However, Senator Siddiqui noted the sensitivity of the matter, to which Senator Mumtaz expressed her willingness to address it openly.

Senator Kamran recounted an observation from his visit to China, mentioning locks placed on the Great Wall, while Senator Faisal Saleem queried the government’s measures against black magic practices.

Senator Samina clarified that such activities are inconsistent with Islamic principles and should not be conflated with acts like reciting prayers at gravesites. Senator Saleem commended the bill as a positive step forward.

Senator Palwasha emphasized the exploitation of vulnerable individuals through black magic, and Senator Mumtaz reiterated that such practices are illegal and often involve immoral acts.

She cited a disturbing instance where a black magic practitioner might demand the blood of a murdered child from a client. Senator Siddiqui stressed the difficulty in defining black magic before enacting new legislation.

The committee ultimately decided to defer the bill’s discussion to a future meeting.

Separately, about a month ago, Pakistani actor Feroze Khan’s mother revealed on her YouTube channel that her family had been affected by black magic.

She described finding mystical objects, such as needles inserted into lemons and amulets, in their home, which she claimed caused significant disturbances in their lives.

She reported that the alleged black magic led to unexplained illnesses for both Feroze Khan and his father.

Additionally, she noted changes in Feroze’s behavior, which became unusually erratic, and said the family faced increasing conflicts and strained relationships as a result of the alleged practices.
