The amazing super blue moon, which is expected to remain hidden from view for the next 14 years, has been revealed in captivating photos taken all over the world.
The moon, which has a cycle of about 29 and a half days, sometimes lines up with the full moon at the start and end of a month, producing a “blue moon.” Although the fact that the moon’s color hasn’t altered, this rarity is what gave rise to the idiom “once in a blue moon.”
At the same time that the moon was full and making its closest approach to Earth, an event known scientifically as “perigee” by NASA, the sky was graced with the Super Blue Moon. Despite the name, the moon’s physical characteristics are unaltered; however, it is around 30% brighter than usual and seems to be roughly 14% larger.
This is the first time in five years that there will be two supermoons in a single month, lighting up the night sky. Until 2037, it is predicted that such a phenomenon will not occur again. Supermoons are omnipresent at night, whereas passing comets or transitory shooting stars are absent.
The University of Warwick’s Professor Don Pollacco explains that due to the moon’s proximity to the sun, there are times when it seems to be as big as the sun.
