Social media platform X has suspended the newly launched Hebrew-language account linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, just one day after it went live.
The account, which used the handle @Khamenei_Heb, displayed a notice stating the suspension was due to “violating X’s rules” shortly after sharing a post warning Israel about its recent military actions. The post stated, “Zionists are making a miscalculation with respect to Iran.
They don’t know Iran. They still haven’t been able to correctly understand the power, initiative, and determination of the Iranian people. We need to make them understand these things.”
While X’s community standards generally prohibit content from “violent and hateful entities,” exceptions are sometimes made for “state or governmental entities.” Despite this allowance, the platform decided to suspend the account.
has been no immediate response from either Khamenei’s office or representatives from X.
The suspension occurs amidst rising tensions following Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iran in retaliation for a ballistic missile incident earlier in October.
Iran has long faced restricted access to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, with citizens often relying on virtual private networks (VPNs) to bypass internet censorship.
Despite these restrictions, Ayatollah Khamenei’s office has maintained several accounts on X, using them over the years to post messages in various languages.
Earlier this year, in February, Meta also removed Khamenei’s accounts from Facebook and Instagram due to content related to Hamas.
