The government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) has made the decision to incorporate kidney, liver, and transplants of bone marrow into its Sehat Card Plus program.
In addition, government funding will cover the entire cost of cochlear implants.
Provincial Information Adviser Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif announced that the government would now offer transplant and implant procedures entirely free of charge, marking a significant extension of the health insurance policy. The decision was made during a high-level meeting that was convened by the Chief Minister of K-P.
Barrister Saif said, “This is another revolutionary step in line with the founding chairman’s vision,” alluding to the PTI.
He further declared that those who are eligible will not have to pay for the services offered through this program.
These modifications are to be adopted immediately by the provincial health department. Additionally, the government intends to just extend the Sehat Card to cover treatment for drug addiction therapy.
The K-P administration has adopted legislation permitting the use of cannabis plants for industrial, medical, and research uses.
Under the Sehat Card Plus program, the K-P government previously introduced free Outpatient Department (OPD) services. At a ceremony at the Chief Minister House, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur formally launched the initiative.
In the Mardan district, the OPD initiative initially launched as a pilot project to assist 50,000 worthy households.
Data from the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) indicated that the project will eventually serve approximately 120,000 worthy households in the districts of Chitral, Malakand, and Kohat after expanding to these areas in the second phase.
