Govt Reduces Pakistan's Electricity Prices

The monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) has resulted in a decrease in electricity costs for customers nationwide, according to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

Under the monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a decrease in electricity rates to consumers countrywide.

The national average Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) has been lowered by Rs. 2.1240 per unit, according to the official statement. This raises the actual fuel cost from the previous reference rate of Rs. 13.0100 per kWh to Rs. 10.8860 per kWh.

The notification said that electricity tariffs in Karachi have been decreased by Rs. 3 per unit, while rates in other parts of the country have been lowered by Rs. 2.12 per unit.

The December 2024 monthly adjustment is the basis for the K-Electric consumer reduction, whilst the January 2025 adjustment applies to the rest of the country’s consumers.

The majority of groups are affected by this FCA reduction, with the exception of prepaid customers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), lifeline consumers, and protected consumers.

The goal of the federal government’s announcement last month was to alleviate the financial burden on households and farmers by restoring fuel cost adjustment advantages for electricity users with up to 300 units and agricultural tube-wells.

According to a Power Division representative, the benefit of lower fuel adjustment charges was first removed for customers using up to 300 units in June 2015.

NEPRA has asked Ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs) to make sure that the revised rates are put into effect in compliance with court orders.
