According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission’s (SUPARCO) forecasts of the moon’s visibility, Ramadan 2025 is expected to start on March 2.
The new moon will occur on February 28, 2025, at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST), and it will be 12 hours old at sunset, according to a SUPARCO announcement.
However, it will be challenging to view with the unaided eye because of the moon’s low altitude and distance from Earth.
SUPARCO clarified that the crescent will not be seen to the naked eye on February 28 due to the moon’s angle with the sun being only 7 degrees.
Therefore, it is expected that Ramadan would begin in Pakistan on March 2, 2025, and the first day of fasting is likely to follow.
Ramadan in Saudi Arabia may start on March 1, 2025, according to the agency, since the crescent moon may be visible there on February 28.
Eid may happen on March 31, 2025, and the crescent for Eid ul-Fitr is predicted to be visible on March 30.
SUPARCO explained that the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan will have the last say on whether or not the crescents of Ramadan and Eid can be seen.
