As thousands of Muslims travel from all over the world to the kingdom to do Umrah, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has established requirements for women’s pilgrim attire.
The ministry posted the dress rule on the social media site X, formerly Twitter, with the caption: “In the realm of sacred attire, the distinction between an Ihram and the customary costume for women undertaking the journey of Umrah becomes clear.”
It stated that as long as the following requirements are followed, females may wear any attire of their choice on pilgrimage or Umrah:
- Wide, loose-fitting clothes are preferred.
- No decoration should be present.
- The clothes should completely enclose the body.
Saudi Arabia recently introduced several facilities to increase worldwide tourists’ accessibility to this sacred excursion. One of them is the 90-day extension of the Umrah visa from 30 days.
