The smog crisis in Lahore has gotten worse, with over 15,000 cases of the breathing and viral infections reported in a single day. Major government hospitals, such as Mayo Hospital (4,000+ patients), Jinnah Hospital (3,500 patients), Gangaram Hospital (3,000 patients), and Children’s Hospital (2,000+ patients), are seeing the most patients with problems like dry cough, pneumonia, and chest infections.

The impact of the fog on sensitive populations, such as youngsters and those with severe health problems including asthma and heart disease, is of special concern to medical professionals.

“Special children suffer greatly,” Professor Ashraf Zia stated. “There are currently more than ten viral diseases that are common in Lahore,” he continued.

The Punjab Transport Department has put in place new regulations in reaction to the increasing pollution. For the first violation, light transport vehicles (LTVs) that generate smoke will be fined Rs 2,000; for future crimes, the cost will be Rs 4,000.

Additionally, because of the rising air pollution, the Punjab administration has decided to close schools and colleges in five more divisions. In an effort to lessen the negative effects of the environment on public health, schools in Gujranwala, Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad will also continue to be closed.
