This performance was further enhanced by the inclusion of Pakistan’s indigenous JF-17 Thunder and F-16 fighter jets, showcasing the nation’s aerial capabilities. This marked the first instance of a PAF flypast at a Champions Trophy opening, adding a unique flair to the event.

The ceremony was graced by President Asif Ali Zardari, who attended as the chief guest, alongside Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Logistical Arrangements
To facilitate the PAF’s aerial display, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) implemented specific airspace restrictions. A designated air corridor was closed from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM on the day of the event, with rehearsals conducted from February 17 to 19. The CAA issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to ensure the smooth execution of the flypast, advising commercial flights arriving at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport to carry additional fuel and exercise caution during this period.
Tournament Kick-off
Following the ceremony, the tournament’s inaugural match featured hosts Pakistan against New Zealand. Pakistan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, won the toss and elected to bowl first, setting the stage for an exciting encounter.
